Sometimes mum guilt and great opportunities collide and this week was one of those times. My daughter is now 18 months and I think this was the first business trip where I believe that she understood that I was going away.
I perhaps didn’t handle it very well as I did this big emotional goodbye, coat on and suitcase in hand. Next time I will make it much more low key, saying goodbye, a quick kiss and cuddle and then put my coat on out of site.
She was of course fine! which I could see from the nursery app I fortunately have access to, where I could see pictures and videos of her happily playing with her friends and painting pictures of fireworks.
The trip was extremely worthwhile and my presentation well received. The conference is all about the importance of nuclear energy for the Central European countries for energy independence.
Europe is facing a real energy crisis and most people are completely unaware. The current infrastructure is very old, needs replacing and renewable energy sources, although very important, cannot bridge the gap on their own. Stable, clean, base load power is needed to ensure we keep the lights on and maintain the standard of living we have become accustom to.
I returned home to my beautiful girl who was so happy to see me, more intense cuddles and the usual toddler dramas which I have come to love.
It is all about balance, right?! 🙂
