For a long time I have talked about how I need to avoid excess consumerism which pulls you into the cycle of having to earn more to sustain it, to them have a bigger house to store it and so on..
I only recently learned that there is a name for this.
Of course, I like most people have being living paycheck to paycheck, with the more I earn, the more debt I seem to accumulate and no matter how much I set my budget to stop over spending – there was always another purchase when I ABSOLUTELY NEEDED and as I could get it immediately (damn you Amazon Prime!), this meant I couldn’t possibly wait.
I spent months doing budgets and actual, and forecasting how and when I would be debt free – yet every month it would just be pushed back by another month.
I realised I needed to change my mindset. I needed to recognise that stuff is just stuff.
I started reading essays from www.theminimalists.com and realised this is exactly what I am striving for. I listened to their audiobook in the car (who has time to read when you have a 15 month old?!) and I set upon starting the 30 day journey to minimalism.
